George Edward Kerlick was born on July 8, 1926 in Cogar, OK to Guss William and Edith Lilly (Burright) Kerlick. He passed away on August 6, 2024 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 98. George was born in a log house and lived in Cogar all of his life. He was fond of saying he was the oldest man in Cogar and he was. Though there was a woman who was older than him. He went to a one room schoolhouse in Lone Rock, later he went to East Walnut School, and graduated from Binger High School in 1946. When his father became sick, he stayed out of high school for a year to take care of the family farm. He later went back to graduate. George had really good aim and could always hit his target, whether it was a bunny or a brother. He married Dorothy Alice Phelps on April 22, 1950 in Anadarko, OK; they were married for 74 years, raising 6 children. He farmed cotton, peanuts, and milo, taught his children to work at farming and working cattle which they felt like was being in a rodeo. George raised Shorthorn cattle, was a member of the Shorthorn Association and had a number of calves that were prize winners. He always raised a big garden also and was very picky about the rows teaching the right way to do it, whatever the family didn’t use they gave to their neighbors. He worked for GM in the paint shop, prepping cars, and was faster than a calculator at counting up parts. He loved to joke with everyone and told great jokes. He was a member of the Church of Christ in Binger. He loved to sing, knew all the old hymns, and was the song leader for 60 years. In later years, he sang at the nursing home for all the residents. He will be missed by all those who loved him.
